Debi Milligan, an artist and photography teacher for 20 years at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School in Cambridge, MA, studied painting and photography, German, and Latin while attending Bard College, the University of Denver, and the University of Massachusetts. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts. As an artist, she practices alternative photography as well as digital, and incorporates poetry, ancient history, languages, landscape and light, into her art and teaching, framing her love of Greece. As an educator, she is committed to progressive education and keeping students’ curiosity at the center of the curriculum. She believes that high quality professional development programs for educators are the most valuable contribution to teaching excellence. Debi received the Power of ART National Teaching Award from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and The Commitment to Excellence Award for Photography from the United Cerebral Palsy of Massachusetts. In addition, she was a member of the Making Learning Visible Research Team at Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education. Debi has presented to photography educators at the Griffin Museum of Photography and is on the Board of Directors of Teachers as Scholars, a Boston-based professional development program for K-12 teachers. A lifelong learner, she has traveled to Greece with The Examined Life many times and enjoys learning as much as she can about contemporary and ancient Greece. She regularly shares her love of Greek art, poetry, and culture with her students.
